Shine On (Peace, Shine On)
Blair Duluoz
Lord, I am weary,
And my mind's filled with doubt—
This land I called home
Looks so strange to me now.
The willows are weeping,
And shivering, torn down,
And Daylight is hiding
For fear she'll go out.
No man meets my eye—
Just stares at the ground.
The river's stopped running,
But none dare ask how.
This ragged ole road
I'm tumbling down
Is rough and hard-travelled—
Don't know where I'm bound.
Though shadows hang under,
And my road is getting dark,
Peace on high shines above me,
Lighting my path with her guiding star.
Though where I'm heading,
I don't know,
I know that her light
Is taking me home.
And when the wolves howl
And the bitter winds blow,
I'll see my light shining
Wherever I go.
And though I'm uncertain
'Neath the gathering clouds,
I trust where she leads me—
I'm homeward bound.
Shine on! Peace, shine on!
Keep your light burning,
And I'll follow you home.
Shine on your saving light!
For those chained by fear
In the darkening night.
Shine on! Peace, shine on!
Shining in mem'ry
Of the ones that we've lost.
Shine on for all to see!
Lead us to the land
Where all souls can be free.
Shine on! Peace, shine on!
Keep your light burning,
And I'll follow you home.
Shine on your saving light!
For those chained by fear
In the darkening night.
Shine on! Peace, shine on!
Shining in mem'ry
Of the ones that we've lost.
Shine on for all to see!
Lead us to the land
Where all souls can be free.
