Everdays
Blair Duluoz
Morning: soft sunlight and coffee breath,
Incessant buzz, cold nose, fall out of bed,
Distant voices, tired silhouettes,
Birds chirp, I'm late for work, we live again.
Open curtains, closets, spirits,
Burnt toast, my daily woes, so it begins,
Grab my coat and drag my cigarette,
Turn key, quiet streets, I take a breath.
Fast feet, rushing traffic, dew on windowpanes, they're cracked, yet
Underneath cold spirits sleep while dead men float by ignoring,
Enslaved by dollar signs, their eyes no thought behind,
No time to reflect on designs of daily life,
The light flicks on, I walk along the fading stripes,
My fading happiness replaced by borrowed time.
Clock in, clock out, clock ticking down
Busy sidewalks tired feet walk
Away give no thought to working
So hard all day, sun recedes now
Night is falling, city in shroud
The dead mourners in procession
Proceed to a new possession,
My shoes beat down crackèd concrete
Buildings made by men with no sleep
Is nice, to bad my insomnia
Resigns my mind to sleepless nights...
Shadows cover,
Lay head to rest,
My conscious
Kneels to darkness,
Surreal visions,
Mock existence,
Dreams reigned by
Nightmares.
