Don't You?
Blair Duluoz
Night at the edge of the morning,
You ring the phone for me:
"This world's got my head a-turning,
And I can't get no sleep.
How can I close my eyes
With fear raging all around me?
How can I sleep through the night
When I don't know if I'll see morning?
There's war overseas,
Fighting on the homeland,
And they say I'm not safe at home,
So where in the world can I go
To dream?"
The future is uncertain,
And that is frightening,
But everything that could be
This world's already seen.
The words may change,
Some get lost in translation,
But the plot remains as one;
Our worries are new but not unknown—
Hold on.
Life sure can get lonely
When you are of one mind;
I've got one spirit only,
But maybe we can share the time.
Hold on till sunrise—
You don't need sleep to dream;
There's beauty in the night,
Though it may be hard to see.
The world is the same
Whether night or day,
What changes is point of view,
But we all look upon the same moon—
Don't you?
