Desperate Highway

Blair Duluoz

I gotta walk that lonesome highway;
I gotta walk that ragged road;
I don't know where I'm heading,
But I don't got nowhere else to go.

I gotta roam till I run dry;
I gotta roam till I can't no more;
Gotta keep on towards that horizon,
That painted sky where freedom soars.

That lonesome road, that endless highway,
Lord, it's all I've ever known!
I gotta keep on, keep on walking
Till I reach my sacred home.

I gotta keep on moving on forward—
There's nothing left where I come from;
All I've got's this moonlit highway,
I'll follow down till my day comes.

I'm gonna hold my head up high, Lord;
I'm gonna leave my blues behind;
I'm gonna find that land of promise
Or, Lord, I'll surely die trying.

That lonesome road, that endless highway,
Lord, it's all I've ever known!
I gotta keep on, keep on walking
Till I reach my sacred home.

I don't know where I'm going;
I don't know what's in store;
But, Lord, I pray this starry skyway
Is taking me to diamond shores.

All my trials and tribulations,
All this hurt that I've endured,
Lord, it must lead to something better,
Or else what have I suffered for?

This lonesome road, this endless highway,
Lord, it's all I've ever known!
I gotta keep on, keep on walking
Till I reach my sacred home.

That lonesome road, that endless highway,
Oh, Lord, it's all I've ever known!
They say that night can't last forever,
But, Lord, sometimes I just don't know...
